Hi, I'm Jean Hanamoto. I know this is strange subject-matter for an artist, but I did live and work within ten miles of Gilroy, California - "The Garlic Capitol of the World" - for over 20 years. I like to use my sense of humor while creating my artwork, and garlic is funny! Gilroy-area artists had a yearly show, usually held at the same time as the famous Gilroy Garlic Festival, called "Local Essence". Ribbons went to artists in the primary show, but with special awards for a garlic category. This involves a great deal of imagination because how much can you do with a garlic? You'd be surprised!
