Schnabel cars are a unique type of freight car. They are typically
used to move the largest and heaviest loads. The car is separated and
the load is joined between the two half's of the car. Then the load
becoming an integral part of the car. Some of the larger schnabel cars
have the ability to shift the load in both the horizontal and vertical
direction.
At any time, one or more of the following schnabel cars can be found
on the Charleston Industrial District, either bringing in a load,
waiting for one, or shipping a load out.
